2026 WCQ: Finidi declares Chukwueze, Awaziem fit for South Africa clash

Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George has provided a positive injury update on Samuel Chukwueze and Chidozie Awaziem ahead of his side’s clash with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa.

Chukwueze missed AC Milan’s last three games of the season due to injury.

The winger was earlier expected to miss the clash with Bafana Bafana and next week Monday’s game against the Squirrels of Benin Republic.

Centre-back Awaziem also had fitness issues in the build-up to the qualifiers.

Finidi however said the duo are in contention to face Bafana Bafana on Friday.

“Chukwueze had a knock, Awaziem had a stomach problem, but all players are fit and ready to go,” Finidi said.

“We have trained well, the players understand the task. I trust my players and their quality. It’s a must-win game.

“I don’t have anything to prove. I am relaxed, it is football. I want to win, I understand the tasks. I am not scared, I played to the highest and we are going for a win tomorrow.”
