Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the latest player who saw his contract terminated by Arsenal.
The Gabonese star was paid a lump sum of around £7 million to terminate his £350,000-a-week deal and move to Barcelona as a free agent.
It is similar to Mesut Ozil, as the Gunners ripped up the German’s contract.
When Ozil left for Fenerbahce last January, Arsenal paid 90 per cent of the midfielder’s wages until the summer, meaning they forked out around £7.38m
Under manager Mikel Arteta, the club has also terminated the deals of players like Willian, Sead Kolasinac and Shkodran Mustafi.
Willian refused to ask for a pay-off after his contract was torn up and joined Corinthians last summer, saving Arsenal’s eye-watering £20.5m as he had two years left on his £240,000-a-week contract.
Kolasinac’s contract was also terminated last month as he joined Marseille on a free transfer, while Mustafi left the Gunners in January 2021 for Schalke after his £90,000-a-week deal was also ripped up.
