Former Nigerian sprinter and Olympian, Deji Aliu who also doubles as coach of Making of Champions (MOC) and MTN academy, has called for more investments for the provision of world class facilities across the length and breadth of the country.

While speaking during the Press conference for the MTN MOC season 3, he stressed on the need for better training facilities which will aid for more improved performances by the country’s athletes at both national and international competitions.

“Well the greatest challenge is infrastructure; the facilities are not there, so we need to improve more in that area.

“MTN has addressed the aspect of sponsorship and support, which every athlete needs that to excel. You can imagine when an athlete doesn’t have to think of where his next meal will come from, he noted.

Speaking further he said “we have to encourage more athletes to come on board. But in terms of facilities what we have right now in the country is not enough.

“The world is moving fast and Nigeria is not moving along with them in terms of facilities. So we need to invest more in the area of infrastructure to be on the same level.

“The talent is not an issue, we have abundant talents every where in the country, but we need to have the best of facilities and more corporate bodies to come in like MTN is doing now and we will be a force to reckon with again in athletics in the world”.

The MTN MOC season 3 was held in University of Lagos and Yaba Tech sports complexes in Lagos from April 9 -12, 2025.
