AC Milan refresh interest in Folarin Balogun

AC Milan have revived their interest in Arsenal starlet Folarin Balogun following his breakout season on loan in France with Ligue 1 side Reims.

Milan were keen on the New York-born striker in the past when he was in Arsenal’s youth team and his exploits at senior level have only confirmed his credentials.

As it stands, the 21-year-old star is third highest goal scorer in Ligue 1 – having scored 15 goals in 25 league league outings.

He is currently sitting behind two goals behind Paris Saint-Germin star Kylian Mbappe and one goal behind Lille striker Jonathan David.

AC Milan have identified Balogun as a potential target as they are planning on investing in a new centre-forward during the summer transfer window.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sports, the Serie A side are looking to find a long-term replacement for Olivier Giroud who will turn 37 years old in September.

Additionally, Milan cannot continue to rely on Giroud to provide all of their goals with the striker having netted seven times in the Italian top-flight so far this season.

Milan did secure the services of Mario Mandzukic and Divock Origi but they have failed to live up to expectations.

Balogun is expected to return to Arsenal at the end of the season but faces stiff competition of minutes.

He will battle it out with the likes of Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah for a place in Mikel Arteta’s squad next season.

Therefore, it may be in his interest to sign for AC Milan who are eager to sign a striker ahead of the 2023-2024 campaign.
