AFCON 2023: Troost-Ekong ‘honoured’ to be back in Super Eagles’ fold

William Troost-Ekong is delighted to be back with the Super Eagles after four months absence.

The PAOK Salonica of Greece star has not been called up by head coach, Jose Peseiro since making the squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe in September.

Troost-Ekong has however been included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 AFCON finals.

The 29-year-old linked up with his teammates at their Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates training base on Friday.

The centre-back expressed his happiness at joining his teammates in camp again.

“Honoured to be back with the team for another AFCON. Let’s get to work,” he wrote on his X account.

This will be Troost-Ekong’s second AFCON after his debut in the competition in 2019 in Egypt, where Nigeria finished third.
