AFCON 2025 qualifier: Why we lost 3-0 to Super Eagles – Benin coach, Rohr

Date:

Benin Republic’s head coach, Gernot Rohr, has shared his thoughts on their 3-0 loss to Nigeria in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.

Earlier this year, the Cheetahs had narrowly defeated the Super Eagles 2-1 in a 2026 World Cup qualifier in June.

However, on Sunday, the three-time African champions demonstrated their superiority, proving too strong for Benin Republic.

Ademola Lookman scored in either half, while Victor Osimhen also got a goal at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.

Speaking about the game, Rohr said: “We managed to beat them in Abidjan.

“It gave them extra motivation to seek revenge, which is normal.

“And at home, in addition, with the stars present today who weren’t there last time, captain Ekong, Aina and Osimhen made a difference.”
