Nigerian music icon 2Face Idibia has reflected on the mixed legacy of his timeless hit, “African Queen,” describing it as both a blessing and a burden in his illustrious career.
Speaking on the Entertainment & Lifestyle show, the legendary singer admitted the song brought him fame and fortune — but also unexpected challenges.
He said: “That song has been a huge blessing, and e don turn problem join for me, you know. But like I said earlier, I’m grateful for everything.”
Released in 2004, the classic track shot 2Baba to global stardom, earning him multiple awards and solidifying his place as one of Africa’s most celebrated artists.

However, its legacy has not been without controversy, following long-running claims by his former Plantashun Boiz bandmate, Blackface, who has repeatedly accused him of stealing the song.
2Baba has consistently denied the claim, stating that the song was a collaborative effort during their band days.
Despite the challenges, 2Face said he remains grateful for the song’s impact on his career.
He highlights that while “African Queen” remains his most iconic song, he has created many other notable works that fans deeply connect with.
“There are so many other songs I have that are brilliant, and many people resonate with them too,” he said.
The song’s legacy was recently reaffirmed when Billboard named it the “Greatest Afrobeats Song of All Time”.
