Alaba Akintola qualifies for Conference USA Championships’ 100/200m final

Middle Tennessee freshman Alaba Akintola is heading to the finals of the 100m and 200m events at the Conference USA Championships after setting a new 10.19s Park West Athletics Complex record.

The 20 year old also ran 20.84s same day to place him first in the overall classification and qualify him for the event’s final holding on Sunday.

In the men’s long jump, Benjamin Arinze Onyekwelu took gold with a personal-best mark of 7.82m.

On the women’s side Esther Isa also set a new personal best (6.39m) to take the gold.

The third podium finish of the day came when Omamuyovwi Erhire took second during the high jump with a height of 2.17m.

The mark of 2.17m came during a jump off with the last two competitors and is 0.01 meters short of his season-best mark of 2.18 meters.
