The Arewa Youth Advocate for Equity and Justice has urged former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), to stop attributing his ongoing investigation to the presidency or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and instead seek legal recourse in court.
Addressing reporters in Abuja, the association’s National President, Sani Zangina, noted that Malami had already been granted administrative bail by the EFCC. He said the former AGF, as a senior legal practitioner, should understand and follow the proper legal channels for redress.
Zangina said, “Resorting to public propaganda and emotional appeals rather than approaching a competent court is unnecessary and unbecoming of the revered status of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. Any dissatisfaction with the conditions of bail should be addressed in court, the lawful avenue for redress. Failing to do so sends the wrong signal and undermines the rule of law.”

He added that the development serves as a reminder that even individuals who once wielded immense institutional powers must respect legal institutions and allow them to function without intimidation or media pressure.
The association clarified that it is not defending Malami nor any former cabinet member of President Muhammadu Buhari. However, as consistent advocates for equity, justice, and due process, they emphasised that the rule of law must always prevail.
Zangina concluded, “We advise the detained SAN to immediately approach a court of competent jurisdiction if he believes he is entitled to relief. The court, not the media, remains the ultimate arbiter in matters of liberty and justice.”
