The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has signalled plans to form an alliance with an as-yet-unidentified political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The disclosure came from PDP stalwart and former Jigawa State Governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, during a special caucus meeting held at his residence. Lamido clarified that the party is pursuing an alliance—not a coalition—as a strategic move to strengthen its electoral prospects.
He acknowledged concerns within the party, noting that ongoing internal challenges prompted him to consult widely with senior leaders. “I have met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other prominent party figures. I appealed to them to set aside grievances and focus on the survival of the PDP and the millions of members nationwide who are worried and confused,” Lamido said.

According to Lamido, resolving the party’s crisis hinges on the cooperation of four influential figures: Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. “If they so wish, the PDP crisis can be resolved instantly,” he added.
Lamido assured that efforts at the national level are ongoing to chart a clear path forward for members and supporters. He revealed that a crucial meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, December 17, 2025, which he described as a potential final attempt to settle lingering differences.
On the party’s strategy in Jigawa State, Lamido said the planned alliance represents a pragmatic approach to reviving PDP fortunes ahead of the 2027 polls. “Given the realities on the ground, this is the most viable path to victory,” he said, attributing internal challenges to leadership disputes and contentious post-election decisions, including candidate selections.
He called on grassroots members to remain united, describing them as “the backbone of the PDP,” whose support would be critical to the success of the alliance.
Lamido concluded by affirming that the party’s actions are aimed at repositioning the PDP both in Jigawa State and nationally, expressing optimism that national-level breakthroughs would reinforce state-level efforts.
