Rangers failed to capitalise on Celtic’s slip-up in the Scottish Premiership title race on Sunday, blowing a two-goal lead against Motherwell to draw 2-2.
Leaders Celtic were held 0-0 by Hibernian in the early kick-off, giving their rivals a chance to close the gap at the top of the table to just one point.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers scored twice in 90 seconds midway through a first half at Ibrox that they dominated.
Alfredo Morelos claimed the opener after he and Motherwell defender Bevis Mugabi competed for a cross and Fashion Sakala doubled the lead.
But Kaiyne Woolery inspired an unlikely Motherwell comeback, setting up substitute Jordan Roberts to net early in the second half and scuffing a shot inside Allan McGregor’s near post with 14 minutes left to level the match.
It meant that champions Rangers finished the weekend as they started it – three points adrift of Celtic.
Earlier, Celtic dropped their first Premiership points of 2022.
“People will look at the result and paint the picture from there,” said manager Ange Postecoglou.
“I always look at the performance. We just didn’t get the bounce in the right areas and in and around goal and we didn’t get the goal we needed.”
