Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres scored his first two Premier League goals, while defender Jurrien Timber also netted twice, as the Gunners cruised to a 5-0 victory over Leeds United at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.

The triumph was slightly overshadowed by injuries to captain Martin Odegaard and winger Bukayo Saka.

Timber gave Arsenal the lead in the 34th minute with a superb glancing header from Declan Rice’s corner.

He then played in Saka for the England international to score in first-half stoppage time to send the home side into the break 2-0 up.

Since joining Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon in July for a reported £55 million, Sweden international Viktor Gyokeres finally got the goal he had long sought with a composed finish three minutes into the second half.

Defender Jurrien Timber then scored the fourth from another corner eight minutes later.

Teenage debutant Max Dowman earned a penalty, which Gyokeres calmly converted to complete the 5-0 rout.

Only the injuries to Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka slightly dampened what was otherwise an impressive home opener for Mikel Arteta’s side.
