Balon d’Or: Oshoala Makes History with Barcelona Femeni

Date:

Asisat Oshoala’s club, FC Barcelona Femení have won the award for Best Women’s team at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony held on Monday night.

The club’s performance were incredibly strong last season, winning the UEFA Champions League, and the Spanish League.

Barcelona defeated VfL Wolfsburg in the women’s edition of the Champions League final after going down 2-0 in the first half. They ended up winning the game in a dramatic fashion with an eventual scoreline of 3-2.

They won Liga F with 10 points over second place Real Madrid, scoring 118 goals and conceding only 10 in the process.

They also won the Super Cup final with a 3-0 victory over Real Sociedad.

Being the best team in the world brings with it success and achievements. Aside from the run of 62 wins in the league, Barça this year have set another two records that will be difficult to beat.

Barça’s opponents have a near impossible task when they come to play at the Estadi Johan Cruyff. Barça Women won 78 games in a row at home in all competitions, scoring 392 goals and conceding just 31. The run came to an end when Chelsea picked a 1-1 draw in the Champions League at the stadium in Barcelona.

Another record that will be difficult to beat is the run of 64 games unbeaten in the league. The run started, as we have mentioned, against Madrid CFF, and then came to an end against the same team when two goals form Kundanaji finally defeated a Barça side preparing for the Champions League final.
