Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey put in a good defensive performance to help Ajax reach the semifinals of Dutch KNVB Beker after overpowering Graafschap 0-3 on Thursday night.

The 23-year-old Nigerian International who joined Dutch champions Ajax from Scottish club Glasgow Rangers last summer on his 31st appearance played the entire game as his side moved to a second successive Dutch KNVB Beker semi-finals.

Ajax took the lead through Mexican Jorge Sanchez inside the first 12 minutes of the encounter at the De Vijverberg Stadium in Doetinchem.

Former Tottenham Hotspur forward and Dutch international Steven Bergwijn doubled the away side’s lead 14 minutes later with a shot into the left side of the goal.

Brian Brobbey then completed a comfortable display by Ajax with a late goal which put the game beyond reach for the home side who gifted the Dutch man his first goal in five games as Ajax cruised into the last four.
