Ben Akwuegbu FC began their 2024/2025 Nationwide League One campaign on a bright note as they hammered Jos Dream Big FC 4-0 at the Jos Centre on Wednesday.
The ambitious free -scoring Ben Akwuegbu FC side, which are on a mission to secure promotion to the Nigeria National League, NNL, took the lead as early as the 18th minute when Stephen Gyang put them ahead with a well -taken goal.
All efforts by Jos Dream Big FC to level score before the half time interval were thwarted by the resilient Akwuegbu defense which were alert to their responsibilities in the game.
However, Raymond Allahbamu, who has been a tormentor -in -chief to the opponent’s backline, doubled their lead in the 44th minute to finish the first half with a 2-0 cushion.
The situation got from bad to worse for Jos Dream Big FC as Habib Dayo who has been silenced in the game made it three just five minutes after the resumption of the second half in exactly the 50th minute.
As if not satisfied with their 3-0 lead, the ruthless Ben Akwuegbu FC side heaped more agony on their opponents as
Raymond Allahbamu got his second goal to complete a brace which made the scoreline four in the 80th minute to further compound Jos Dream Big FC’s misery.
The match ended 4-0 at full time but not without Akwuegbu FC side making a big statement that sends a huge warning to their next opponents that they are here for serious business.
Reacting after the encounter, an excited Benedict Akwuegbu, the club owner, described the match as a tip of the iceberg.
“We are here to take the matches as they come, one game at a time.
“This is just a tip of the iceberg, he said.
“Our ultimate ambition is to gain promotion to the NNL, which this win is good for us.
“We’ll however not lose focus nor allow this to get into our heads”, he stressed.
