The Borno State Police Command has confirmed a bomb blast at Al-Adun Jumaat Mosque, located in Gamboru Main Market, Maiduguri, during Magrib prayers on Wednesday evening.
Preliminary reports indicate that scores of worshippers were killed or injured, although official figures have not yet been released.

The Police Command, in a brief statement by its spokesman, ASP Kenneth Daso, said the area was immediately cordoned off while personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Department (EOD) secured the scene. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the blast.
Sources noted that the mosque is usually crowded, particularly by shoppers and traders visiting Gamboru Market daily.
