CAFCC: We Responded to Wydad’s Defeat By Thrashing Al Nasr – Eguma

Rivers United coach Stanley Eguma said their big result recorded against Al Nasr on Wednesday was a response to the heavy defeat suffered in the second-leg match of the Champions League qualifying round against Wydad Casablanca.

Despite winning 2-1 in the first leg, Wydad walloped Rivers 6-0 in the second leg match played in Rabat and crashed out 7-2 on aggregate.

The Pride of Rivers responded heavily in the first leg of the Confederation Cup playoff round by trouncing visiting Al Nasr of Libya 5-0.

During the post-match conference, Eguma said Wydad’s defeat was a big embarrassment to the country and the team and what they could do is respond immediately.

“No two games are the same, we played Wydad here and scored two goals and today we scored five goals.

” They are two different things and two different occasions but that does not make Al Nasr a bad team.

“They came with tactics that would have fetched them good results but we countered them because we have been training.

“Having lost 6-0 to Wydad in the second leg, it was a big embarrassment to the country and the team and we felt that what we could do is to respond immediately today (Wednesday) we almost achieve that and I still believed it’s not over.

” Our players were more clinical today than against Wydad, the Moroccans had those chances but we were unable to convert them.

“Our conversion rate today (Wednesday) was better”, he said.
