Former Chelsea striker, Diego Costa could make the sensational return to England to join Birmingham City if former Argentine international, Maxi Lopez, takes control of the in-crisis club.
Lopez has already drawn up a list of potential targets, including Costa, if his consortium is successful in taking charge of Birmingham, according to The Mirror.
Birmingham’s current Chinese owners are said to be open to selling a share in the English club and handing over the running to new directors, with Lopez interested in taking control.
Lopez is part of a consortium bidding to take over at St Andrew’s alongside businessmen Paul Richardson and Christian Codoma.
Lopez and lifelong Birmingham fan Richardson attended Birmingham’s final day defeat at home to Blackburn on Saturday.
The duo are reportedly keen on running the club on a two-year management deal before eventually looking to buy it.
Meanwhile, Costa won the Premier League twice during his time at Chelsea but is currently a free agent.
The former Atletico Madrid star left Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro last January after just five months at the club, despite winning the domestic double.
