Outgoing Manchester United midfielder, Nemanja Matic, has revealed that a word of wisdom from teammate Cristiano Ronaldo convinced him not to shun his Old Trafford send-off after the 3-0 win over Brentford last Monday.
Matic is all set to leave Man United after his contract expires this summer.
The former Chelsea star was given a rousing reception by Man United fans during their last home game of the season on May 2 against Brentford.
The 33-year-old received a standing ovation as he was taken off midway through the second half of their 3-0 win against Brentford, with the Serbian also taking a lap of appreciation after full-time.
But Matic has now revealed that he would have headed straight down the tunnel had it not been for Ronaldo’s intervention.
Speaking to K1 Televizija (via Manchester Evening News), Matic said: “I wanted to get off the field as soon as possible because I don’t like to have something revolving around me and to be in the centre of attention, but Ronaldo told me ‘Wait, what are you doing? Come back. It is a great honour to share a dressing room with him every day.”
