Delta 2022: AIU warns athletes to be careful if they choose to take supplements!

Date:

With the athletics event of the 21st National Sports Festival starting on Sunday at the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba, the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, has cautioned athletes to be extremely careful in taking supplements.

This message to athletes worldwide who want to compete in track and field competitons is coming at the right moment for Nigerian athletes, especially those who will be taking part in the National Sports Festival.

According to the AIU, some supplements may not adhere to regulations, may not be reliably sourced, and could contain prohibited substances.

‘If you feel you must take supplements, however, be cautious. If in doubt, leave it out!,’ warned the AIU.

The burning question the athletes must ask, according to the AIU is: How can I be sure my medication or supplement is okay to take❓

The AIU insists no matter where a substance comes from, before taking anything athletes should obtain its list of ingredients and cross-check them against the list of prohibited substances.

Athletes are also encouraged to do an internet search to learn more about the product, ensure that it is reliably sourced, and consult appropriate experts, informing them of the prohibited list and any concerns.

Meanwhile, Sportsnow has gathered there will be massive anti-doping control at the Festival.
