The Delta State Police Command has redeployed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, following allegations of extortion totaling N2.5 million.

The move came after a viral video showed a woman accusing the DPO and two officers, identified as Bright and Usman, of demanding the money to secure her brother’s release from police custody.

According to the Command, the suspect, Israel Onojeruo, 20, was arrested on January 1, 2026, after being linked to another individual who allegedly sold him a firearm. He and other suspects were later transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation.

In response to the extortion claims, Commissioner of Police CP Aina Adesola directed the X-Squad to investigate the matter thoroughly.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated that Constable Bright has been detained, while the DPO has been redeployed to the Command Headquarters pending the outcome of the probe.

Edafe added that the redeployment follows multiple complaints of extortion and unprofessional conduct against the officer from various quarters.

CP Adesola assured the public that any officer found guilty would face sanctions under the Police Act and regulations, emphasizing that the Command maintains zero tolerance for extortion, intimidation, or misconduct.
