Senegal secured a 1–0 victory over Mali in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 quarter-finals in Tangier, booking a place in the tournament’s semi-finals.
Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye scored the decisive goal in the 27th minute, giving the Lions of Teranga the lead in a tightly contested West African derby.
Mali’s challenge suffered a major blow when Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma was sent off in first-half stoppage time after receiving a second yellow card.
The win reinforces Senegal’s dominance over Mali, as the Lions of Teranga remain unbeaten against their neighbours in recent encounters. Senegal have now reached the AFCON semi-finals for the fifth time in their history.

Senegal also extended their unbeaten streak in AFCON to 15 matches, marking one of the longest runs in the competition.
Mali, who advanced from the Round of 16 after a penalty shootout against Tunisia, were unable to break down Senegal’s disciplined defence.
The Eagles exit the tournament, ending their hopes of reaching a first AFCON semi-final since 2013.
Senegal now prepare for a high-stakes semi-final clash as they pursue continental glory in Morocco.
