While over 75,000 fans filled the Allianz Arena in Munich to witness the clash between Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, thousands of kilometres away, Lagos fans also had their share of the excitement as StarTimes hosted a spectacular Der Klassiker Watch Party.
The event, held at Happiness Bar in Egbeda, brought together football lovers, journalists, and former players to experience the intensity and thrill of German football in a vibrant atmosphere.
It was an evening that underscored both the growing influence of the Bundesliga in Nigeria and StarTimes’ commitment to delivering world-class sporting experiences to local audiences.
The highlight of the night was Bayern Munich’s 2–1 victory over Borussia Dortmund, with England captain Harry Kane scoring his 400th career club goal through a towering header from Joshua Kimmich’s corner.
Michael Olise added a second after a defensive mix-up, while Julian Brandt’s late strike proved to be no more than a consolation for Dortmund.
The win extended Bayern’s lead at the top of the Bundesliga table, five points clear of their closest rivals.

Back in Lagos, every moment of the match was met with roars, applause, and laughter as the fans reacted in unison to the unfolding drama on the big screen.
The Watch Party, powered by StarTimes, offered more than football; it was a full community event featuring live music, interactive games, and giveaways that included authentic Bundesliga jerseys, footballs, cash rewards, and smartphones.

Among the guests at the event was former Super Eagles striker Victor Agali, who spent several years in the Bundesliga playing for clubs such as Schalke 04, Hansa Rostock, and later in France and Greece.
Agali, one of the earliest Nigerian exports to the German topflight, represents a generation of players who built enduring ties between Nigeria and the Bundesliga.
Others who followed his footsteps include Sunday Oliseh (Cologne, Borussia Dortmund), Jonathan Akpoborie (VfB Stuttgart, Wolfsburg), Jay-Jay Okocha (Eintracht Frankfurt), and Taiwo Awoniyi (Union Berlin).
The Lagos event also attracted prominent sports journalists and broadcasters including Godwin Enakhena, Toyin Ibitoye, and Wale Adigun, who mingled freely with fans, analysing plays and sharing memories from Nigeria’s football history.
For many in attendance, it was more than just a match — it was an experience. Oluwatobi Alabi, a Borussia Dortmund fan, described the event as “the closest thing to being inside the Allianz Arena.” He added: “The sound, the screens, and the atmosphere were just perfect. It felt like we were part of something big. StarTimes really brought Europe to Egbeda tonight.”
Another fan, Chioma Nwosu, who came with a group of Bayern supporters, said, “It was a fun and safe environment. Everyone came together for the love of football. The giveaways, music, and the energy made it special. This is what football should always be about.”
StarTimes, the exclusive broadcaster of the Bundesliga in Sub-Saharan Africa, has consistently expanded access to top-tier European football across Nigeria through affordable subscription packages and the StarTimes ON mobile app. The broadcaster said the Egbeda Watch Party marked the beginning of a nationwide fan engagement series designed to bring football lovers closer to the action.
“We remain committed to giving fans premium football experiences both on-screen and on-ground,” said Oke Umurhohwo, StarTimes’ Marketing Director. “The Bundesliga stands out for its passion, quality, and youth development, and Nigerian fans have embraced it fully. This Watch Party is just the beginning of what we have planned.”
With more Bundesliga-themed watch parties expected across Nigeria in the coming months, StarTimes appears set to keep the momentum going — connecting millions of African fans to one of Europe’s most exciting leagues.
