Saidat Adeshina, mother of late Nigerian singer Destiny Boy, has revealed how her son passed away after battling a serious medical condition.
In a recent interview, Saidat said the Fuji star, whose real name was Afeez Adeshina, began experiencing health challenges two years ago during preparations for the naming ceremony of his first child.
“He started having seizures then,” she said.
Determined to find a cure, the family explored all options, both medical and traditional. Destiny Boy was eventually referred to an Ifa priest, Edun Ifayomi, whom he regarded as a father figure. The priest, who had offered a cow for the naming ceremony, was deeply involved in the singer’s care and even contributed to hospital bills.
“This happened about two years ago. The Ifa priest was not even aware of the incident initially. We informed him that Destiny Boy was sick. He told us that nothing must happen to him,” Saidat explained.

She added that the priest provided remedies, including a special soap, which they used during treatment. At the time, Destiny Boy appeared to improve.
Saidat described the illness, called ‘Oku or,’ as causing Destiny Boy to become stiff during attacks, similar to epilepsy, and to exhibit abnormal behaviour afterward. The family kept his struggle private.
“The sickness is called ‘Oku or.’ Anytime it strikes, he becomes stiff like someone with epilepsy, and afterward, he behaves like someone with a mental disorder. We did not make this public because he was a superstar. We took him to churches and herbalists for treatment, all to no avail,” she said.
The final tragedy occurred just two weeks ago. After a trip to Ayetoro, Destiny Boy was taken to Ifayomi’s house for treatment. Saidat recounted that the seizure started suddenly, and despite treatment, he had to be rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“My son did not perform any money ritual,” she stressed.
Destiny Boy began his career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege as a backup dancer for Fuji musician Pasuma. He rose to prominence in 2019 with a viral Fuji cover of Davido’s “If” and later released popular covers of songs by Tekno, 2Baba, and others. His original tracks, including Lamba, Gbese, and Lowkey, established his name in the Fuji-infused music scene.
He is survived by his partner, Iremide, and their first child, born in November 2024.
