Edo FA hails Okpebholo for restoring football glory

The Edo State Football Association has commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for revitalizing football in the state.

According to the association, Bendel Insurance FC was languishing in 19th place on the league table when Governor Okpebholo assumed office but climbed to 5th by the end of the season.

In a letter of appreciation, Chairman of the Edo FA, Mr. Fred Newton Erhumwunse, praised the governor for demonstrating that significant progress is possible through clear vision, transparent leadership, and genuine passion for the sport.

According to the letter, “When you assumed this esteemed role, Bendel Insurance Football Club, the pride of Edo State, was struggling in 19th position on the league table. Through your visionary guidance, hands-on management, and the creation of a renewed sense of purpose within the team, Bendel Insurance made an extraordinary climb to finish the season in 5th position.

“This remarkable turnaround, achieved in such a short time, reflects not only your understanding of the game but also your deep commitment to restoring Edo’s football glory.

“Football in Edo State has witnessed unprecedented growth and renewed energy under the governor’s watch. From grassroots development to elite competition, the game is thriving in ways not seen in years. Stakeholders at all levels, he added, are now inspired by a new spirit of optimism, collaboration, and ambition.

“Your tenure so far has shown that with clear vision, transparent leadership, and genuine passion, great strides can be made in a short time. The Edo State Football Association celebrates your achievements and applauds your dedication to advancing sports, nurturing talent, and building a lasting legacy for future generations. We are confident that with your continued commitment, Edo State will consolidate these gains and set a new national standard for sports governance and football development,” he stated.

Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, who received the letter, said Okpebholo has created an enabling environment for football to thrive in Edo State.

“His vision is to rigorously identify, nurture, and galvanise grassroots talent across the state,” Enabulele concluded.
