Edo Golf Association Presents Trophies to Sports Commission Boss, Showcases Edo’s Sporting Prowess

The Chairman of the Edo State Golf Association, Mr. Andy Momodu, on Tuesday led a delegation of coaches, athletes, and stakeholders on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, at his office in Benin City.

Mr. Momodu said the visit was intended to present trophies won by Edo athletes in various golf tournaments to Hon. Enabulele, in recognition of the Commission’s steadfast support for golf development in the state.

He commended the Commission boss for his visionary leadership and dedication to repositioning sports in Edo State.

“We boast some of the best golf players in the country. These trophies represent the achievements of our athletes and show that Edo continues to excel in golf,” Momodu said.

He highlighted recent successes, including Ehis Igbinadolor, who emerged first runner-up and Nigeria’s best at the All Africa Challenge/Central Africa Championship, while also clinching the Benin Club Ladies Open title four consecutive times. Ibrahim Musa won the men’s category at the 2025 Python Golf Club Open in Port Harcourt and finished first runner-up in another category. Osaze Iyare took men’s overall titles at both the Asaba Governor’s Golf Cup and the Benin Club Open. Destiny Okoh finished fourth at the Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN) South-South Golf Open, and Loveth Okoho also impressed at the Benin Ladies Open and Port Harcourt Open.

Momodu further announced his recent elevation as the South-South representative on the Nigeria Golf Federation, describing it as an opportunity to strengthen regional collaboration in golf development.

In response, Hon. Enabulele congratulated the association’s leadership and praised their commitment to sporting excellence.

“I sincerely appreciate your efforts. As a Commission, we ask only for your financial commitment and continued accessibility,” he said.

“I also congratulate all the athletes who have made Edo proud. Our vision remains the development of grassroots sports, and it is gratifying to see our initiatives yielding results nationally and internationally,” he added.

Hon. Enabulele assured the association of the Commission’s continued support and partnership in hosting major golf tournaments across the state, in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s sports vision.
