Nigerian-born manager, Ndubisi Emmanuel Egbo has won the Kosovo Super Cup with his side, Pristina.
Egbo, who made history when he won the Albanian league, becoming the first African to win a topflight league title in Europe and qualify for the Champions League, KF Tirana of Albania, showed his class again in Kosovo to prove that his exploits in Albania were no fluke.
The goals scored by Egzon Sinani and Leotrim Kryeziu were enough and all that Egbo and his Pristina side needed to win the Kosovo Super Cup.
Prishtina defeated Balkan in Antalya, Turkey 2-1 on Saturday to start the year 2024 with a trophy.
Central defender Sinani scored in the ninth minute of the match with an accurate shot from the area.
In the first half, Prishtina also protested for two penalties which were not awarded by the center referee as the match was played without the VAR system.
Balkan increased the tempo of the game after the conceded goal, but failed to equalize the figures.
The coach Ilir Daja tutored side, were surprised even at the beginning of the second half when striker Kryeziu scored with a header from close range to increase the tally to 2-0, in the first action of the “blue and white” in this match.
Both goals of Prishtina were assisted by Kreshnik Uka who has left behind the serious knee injury that kept him out of the field for a long time.
Coach Daja reacted by making several substitutions, including striker Krenar Dulaj and it was precisely the talented striker who, in the 79th minute, narrowed the score to 2-1 after a precise header from an Armend Thaqi pin-point cross from the right wing.
Balkan had chances in the continuation of the match, but failed to score again and the match ended 2-1 in favor of Pristina.
Meanwhile, for Prishtina, it is the ninth Kosovo Supercup trophy since the post-war period, and the 11th since 1992.
Balkan, which had defeated Llap in last year’s Super Cup, will now turn its attention to the Super League as they aim for another championship title.
Balkan leads after 18 games with 40 points, six more than Llapi and Drita.
Prishtina is fifth in the league with 26 points.
