Austin Eguavoen has stepped down as interim coach of the Super Eagles following his short-term appointment to manage the team through their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Eguavoen, who previously managed the team in 2005-2007, 2010, and 2022, led Nigeria to a 3-0 win over Benin Republic and a 0-0 draw with Rwanda.
In his resignation statement, Eguavoen expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance and thanked the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) for the opportunity. He also addressed decisions made during the matches, including substitutions and player rotations.

“I was given the task to manage two games, and I’m very pleased with the players’ performances,” Eguavoen said. “The spirit of the team is strong, and I see a bright future ahead.”
Eguavoen also discussed his tactical decisions, including substituting Wilfred Ndidi and managing the fitness of key players like Victor Osimhen.
The NFF will now seek a new coach to lead the team as they continue their quest for success in the ongoing qualifiers.
