The traditional ruler of Ikate-Elegushi in Eti-Osa, Lagos State, Oba Dr. Saheed Ademola Elegushi, has donated three International Tennis Federation (ITF) standard tennis courts to Lagos State University (LASU) in Ojo.

This donation, part of the facilities used for the recently concluded Federation of African University Sports (FASU) games co-hosted by LASU and the University of Lagos, highlights the traditional ruler’s commitment to promoting sports and education.

Speaking when he inspected the facility on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of FASU games at LASU, Oba Elegushi stated: “Our intervention is to ensure we promote sports even at the university level. If we want the students to turn away from crime and criminality, we should provide the facilities they need to recreate and spend time outside their academic schedule.”

Oba Elegushi promised to institute an annual tennis competition in the university, replicating a similar competition in his honour at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club.

While thanking the traditional ruler for the gesture, the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, said Oba Elegushi continues to demonstrate his love for his alma mater, noting that the university is proud to have the traditional ruler as one of its alumni.

“I want to thank our royal father, Oba Saheed Elegushi for this donation. As an alumnus, he is always coming through for the university, and this is another one and we are very grateful,” she added.
