Chelsea suffered a particular sour note in their draw with Tottenham on Sunday as N’Golo Kante went down with an apparent muscle injury.
The French midfielder had enjoyed a fine performance at Stamford Bridge before stretching for the ball in the 83rd minute.
It had initially appeared as though Yves Bissouma had caught Kante as the pair challenged for a loose ball, however referee Anthony Taylor waved play on.
The official was proved correct as replays showed the Chelsea man grab the back of his right leg, in the hamstring area, without any contact from his Spurs counterpart.
Thomas Tuchel was forced to withdraw Kante immediately, for home debutant Conor Gallagher.
Kante missed several weeks in the backend of last season due to a hamstring injury and Chelsea had already lost Mateo Kovacic to a recurring injury ahead of the game.
With Kante off the pitch, Chelsea dropped two points in stoppage time with Harry Kane’s header turned in off Reece James, who had put the Blues ahead earlier in the second half.
