The stage is set for one of this weekend’s Premier League highlights as Chelsea hosts Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

The clash kicks off on Saturday at 6.30 pm, Nigerian time, with both sides aiming to build momentum from their previous league outings. Chelsea drew 2-2 with Newcastle United, while Aston Villa recorded a 2-1 victory over Manchester United.

Under manager Unai Emery, Aston Villa have enjoyed a strong record against Chelsea, winning three of their last five Premier League encounters, alongside one draw and one defeat.

Villa currently occupy third place on the Premier League table with seven points, narrowly ahead of fourth-placed Chelsea after 17 matches. The West Midlands side will be keen to maintain their title challenge, sitting just one point behind second-placed Manchester City and three behind leaders Arsenal.

Chelsea, though technically out of the title race, will aim to frustrate Villa’s ambitions while strengthening their top-four credentials.

Manager Enzo Maresca may be without Brazilian winger Estêvão, who missed the recent fixtures against Cardiff City and Newcastle. Defenders Levi Colwill, Dário Essugo, and Roméo Lavia are also sidelined. However, Maresca confirmed that striker Liam Delap is set to return against the visitors.

Aston Villa will welcome back Jadon Sancho against his former loan club, Chelsea, but loanee Harvey Elliott remains sidelined with illness. Emery will also be without Evann Guessand, called up late to the Ivory Coast squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Former Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley is ruled out due to injury.

Saturday’s showdown promises high stakes as Villa seek to sustain their title push while Chelsea look to secure crucial points in the top-four race.
