Arsenal legend, Paul Merson, has urged his former club to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku for £60m.
Merson believes Arsenal’s style of play would suit Lukaku, adding that the Gunners have not had a player who is big, strong and dynamic since Kevin Campbell.
He described the Belgium international as an elite goalscorer.
Arsenal are in desperate need of a centre-forward this summer following the recent departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, with Eddie Nketiah’s future also appearing uncertain at Emirates.
“Arsenal should make a cheeky £60m bid for Romelu Lukaku this summer. Because if Chelsea are so desperate to let him go that they are talking about loaning him to Inter Milan, surely they would take the money! Arsenal have not had someone who is big and strong and dynamic like that since Kevin Campbell,” Merson told Daily Star.
He added: “I know he has not scored a lot of goals this season, but Lukaku is an elite goalscorer. Arsenal play great football up to the edge of the box, but then it often fizzles out. Arsenal go through the lines. They want their striker on the edge of the box. It would suit him.”
