Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji hopes Phil Foden will continue his red hot spell.
The attacking midfielder was outstanding against Newcastle United in a 2-0 win in the Premier League on Saturday.
Foden finding his best form is a huge boost for City as they chase Arsenal in the league and hope to win the Champions League for the first time.
Akanji stated post-game, “We saw his goal – he’s so hard to defend against and we’ve seen it in training,” he said. “When he comes with speed and goes inside it’s one of the hardest things to defend against. Hopefully he keeps on scoring goals and getting assists.”
The Swiss continued on the game: “It’s very important. It has been frustrating the last few games we have had – being in control but somehow the other team scores. We knew we wanted to improve on it – it’s for the whole team. Everybody helped out and everyone defended really well at the set pieces.
“Very happy with the win. We did what we came for – we got the three points; we finally got a clean sheet, and we can keep building up from this performance. We showed a great performance and especially with the second goal it came at an important time of the game.”
