EPL: No plan to join Tottenham, Arsenal boss Arteta sets record straight

Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, has said that he has never nurtured the ambition of joining Tottenham.

Arteta took charge of Arsenal in December 2019, but before that he spent over three years working as part of Pep Guardiola’s backroom staff at Manchester City.

The Spaniard made the move to Manchester after retiring from playing at Arsenal in 2016, but at the time he was also attracting interest from Tottenham.

Asked if he could have ever worked at Tottenham, Arteta said ahead of Thursday’s crunch north London derby: “No. My relationship with Mauricio (Pochettino) comes out since I was 18 years old and I always said that for me he was like a football father.

“I have an extraordinary relationship with him, but unfortunately for my experience as a player he was a coach of Spurs and I was here at the time. And that relationship doesn’t change, but that wasn’t the case [of me being close to joining Spurs].”
