EPL: We always knew breakthrough would happen against Brighton, says Man City attacker Mahrez

Date:

Manchester City attacker, Riyad Mahrez, was delighted after victory over Brighton.

Mahrez says City stayed patient and always believed the goals would come against Brighton.

Brighton held out for 53 minutes against the defending Premier League champions before Mahrez broke the deadlock with his 23rd goal of the campaign.

The Algerian’s goal lifted the anxiety the home support were feeling and sparked a much-improved second period that saw Phil Foden and Bernardo complete a three-goal victory.

“We never for one minute thought we wouldn’t score these goals,” said Mahrez.

“We had to be patient – they defended deep and went man for man at times, but we stayed patient.”
