Ex-Arsenal, Man City striker Adebayor announces retirement

Former Arsenal and Manchester City striker, Emmanuel Adebayor, on Tuesday announced his retirement from football at the age of 39.

In a typically charismatic style, the former Togo international announced he was hanging up his boots with a video on his Instagram account in which he signed a piece of paper with the message ‘Thanks for the blessings!!!

The video continued with arguably the most contentious goal in Premier League history which saw the former Tottenham Hotspur star score for Manchester City against Arsenal, before Adebayor ran the entire length of the field to celebrate in front of the Gunners’ fans who once loved him.

“Thank you to my fans for being there every step of the way. I’m feeling so grateful for everything, and excited for what’s to come!” reads the caption that accompanied Adebayor’s farewell video.
