The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has debunked reports alleging that the Federal Government directed it to suspend enforcement actions on sachet alcohol and 200ml PET bottle alcoholic products.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, the agency described the publication as false and misleading, insisting it did not emanate from any official government communication.
NAFDAC said it operates strictly within its statutory mandate and in line with duly communicated government policies and directives. It stressed that it had not received any formal instruction from the Federal Government ordering a halt to its regulatory or enforcement activities on sachet alcohol products.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring full regulatory compliance in accordance with existing laws and due process.
It added that any decision affecting national regulatory measures would be conveyed through established and authorised government channels.
NAFDAC urged the public, industry operators and media organisations to disregard the report and rely solely on verified information released via its official platforms and recognised government communication outlets.
The agency also warned against the circulation of unverified claims capable of creating public anxiety, economic uncertainty or misinterpretation of government policies.
Reiterating its position, NAFDAC pledged to continue discharging its mandate in the interest of public health, economic stability and national development.
