After spending almost a year under FIFA sanction, the government of Kenya and its football federation have approached the World soccer ruling body to lift the ban imposed on the country’s football.
The FIFA hammer fell on Kenya Football in November 2021 after the country’s Sports Ministry dissolved the football federation and appointed the caretaker committee.
Kenya’s government in the past weeks has decided to reverse the decisions and also agreed to work with FIFA.
“The government has fulfilled the aforementioned conditions, as set out by the FIFA council, as part of the ongoing efforts to allow Kenya’s return to international football,” a statement from the FKF said.
“We were engaged in consultations to find a resolution to the gridlock that has held Kenyan football hostage for the last year,” Ababu Namwamba, the cabinet secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Art.
“Football is too important to be placed at risk. The government expects 100% integrity in the management of football.”
“I believe in a short period this issue will be dealt with.
“I need to do away with this matter before I can fully be integrated. FIFA is aware I am not trying to interfere [in the running of the FKF]”, he told BBC Sports Africa.
