Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to substantial investments in agricultural development to bolster food security within the state.
Governor Yahaya made this statement to journalists at the State House in Abuja on Friday, following a meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Discussions centered on the country’s economy and strategies to enhance agricultural investments to strengthen food security.
The governor highlighted his recent visit to Morocco, aimed at forging deeper economic and diplomatic ties with the Kingdom of Morocco, particularly in agriculture and livestock production. He expressed optimism about adopting Morocco’s successful practices in livestock and crop production, despite challenges such as desertification and limited rainfall.
Governor Yahaya also announced collaborations with Moroccan enterprises to boost productivity in livestock and crop farming. His administration targets cultivating 1,000 hectares for cassava production this farming season.

Given that 75-80% of Gombe’s population is involved in agriculture, Governor Yahaya’s initiatives aim to support small-scale farmers, rejuvenate cooperative systems, and enhance productivity to mitigate food scarcity and stabilize prices. He expressed confidence in achieving a significant increase in agricultural output compared to previous years.
Regarding the Kolmani Integrated Development Project on the border between Gombe and Bauchi states, Governor Yahaya expressed concern over delays and issues affecting its progress. He discussed these challenges with President Tinubu, hoping for federal intervention to resolve issues hindering the project’s commencement.
Governor Yahaya emphasized the importance of federal support, particularly since petroleum and gas projects fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal government, limiting state intervention.
