African long jump record holder at 7.17m, Ese Brume will not only be aiming for her second Diamond League win in as many attempts but also score a first over
Germany’s World and Olympic champion, Mihambo Malaika when she files out in a star studded event at the Golden Gala Diamond League
meeting in Florence, Italy.

Brume and Mihambo will be meeting for the 11th time on Friday evening and the German has jump farther in each of those 10 encounters dating back to August
2016 at the Rio Olympic Games.

The Nigerian leapt a distance of 6.81m to finish fifth behind Mihambo (6.95m) in fourth in the final of the long jump event.

The last time both met at ISTAF 2022 last September, the German denied Brume first place with her 6.92m leap while Brume jumped 6.78m to come second, a repeat of what happened at the World Championships in Oregon, USA.

At the World Athletics’ flagship event, Brume settled for a silver medal finish with her 7.02m leap, some 10 centimetres behind Mihambo (7.12m) who picked the gold medal.

Brume will be eager to start her 2023 Diamond League campaign on a good note as she hopes to garner the points that will guide her to her first Diamond League final.
