I want to make Nigerians proud in Cameroon – Awoniyi

Striker Taiwo Awoniyi is proud to be playing at his first senior international tournament with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

Awoniyi is one of the few players who are making their debut for Nigeria at the African football showpiece.

The Union Berlin’s striker also represented the Country at the U-17 and U23 level, before making his long awaited Super Eagles debut November 2021.

The striker said, it is a privilege to making his Afcon debut and he’s proud of his journey as a player.

“It’s a privilege and honor to be represent Nigeria, looking at the talents we have in the country, so you have to see it as a privilege.”

“Personally, I’m proud of my journey as an individual, because it takes a lot of hardwork, patience, dedication and most importantly the grace of God to get here.” he told NFF TV.

Awoniyi is likely to lead the attack when Nigeria face Egypt in their opening game on Tuesday, and speaking ahead of the game, the 24-year-old, said: “I’m preparing for the tournament. I want to the best for my country, because this tournament means a lot to us. Again we have our names, families and 200 million Nigerians to fight for. ” He said.
