Ilaboya Hails Gusau’s Election As WAFU 1st VP

Date:

A former chairman of Edo State Football Association and the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter, Frank Ilaboya, has extended his congratulations to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, on his election as the 1st Vice President of the West African Football Union (WAFU) B Zone.

The election took place in Niamey, Niger Republic during the CAF African Schools Football Championship (WAFU B qualifying tournament) held in the country.

Kurt Edwin-Simeon Okraku, President of the Ghana Football Association, was elected as President of the WAFU B Zone, while Oumarou Sawadogo, President of the Burkinabe Football Federation, emerged as the 2nd Vice President.

Ilaboya praised Gusau’s election as a testament to his dedication and significant contributions to the development of football, not only in Nigeria, but West Africa as a whole.

“Gusau’s appointment is a clear indication that Nigeria remains a force to be reckoned with globally in football and has much to offer in this sector,” Ilaboya remarked.

He continued, “May I use this opportunity therefore to congratulate the NFF President on this landmark achievement. I am very confident he will bring his Wealth of experience to bear on his new assignment.

The WAFU B Zone comprises seven countries: Nigeria, Togo, Benin Republic, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Niger Republic, and Côte d’Ivoire.

Gusau, who assumed the presidency of the NFF in September 2023, has held several key roles in African football. These include serving on the Organizing Committee of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) and acting as a top Security Officer for both FIFA and CAF.
