President of the Boxing Promoters Association of Nigeria (BPAN) Omonlei Yakubu Imadu on Tuesday inspected the ongoing construction of an ultra-modern boxing gymnasium at the Teslim Balogun stadium Lagos.
It will be recalled that the Yucateco boss made a pledge to construct a boxing Gym for the Lagos State Sports Commission when he paid a courtesy visit to the Director General Mr. Lekan Fatodu in August. The boxing Enthusiast has since matched words with action as the construction is almost at its finishing stages.
The CEO of Yucateco Boxing Promotions who was received by the DG of LSSC Lekan Fatodu, on arriving the construction site said the boxing Gym will be handed over to the commission on completion before the first week of December 2024.
” I am here today to inspect the level of work done thus far by the contractors, we have our specifications in terms of the construction and it’s of top-class quality hence my inspection to ensure the standard is being met”.
” our projected handover date for the project is the first week of December and we are working closely with the contractors to ensure this is achieved”.
Imadu who recently donated boxing rings to several states in the country, said more of such boxing Gym will be constructed across the nation to aid the development of boxing at the grassroots.
On his part, the director general Lagos State Sports Commission Lekan Fatodu, extolled Imadu for his vision for boxing in Nigeria.
” we look forward to the completion of this project because it will be a game changer in raising young boxers in our beloved state, the Teslim Balogun stadium truly craves this infrastructure and we are so delighted it’s coming at this time”.
Imadu is the initiator of the first ever boxing league in Nigeria the “Yucateco Boxing League” which is in its second season, as well as the Yucateco Pan-African Boxing Championship.
