The Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs on Thursday screened former ministers Femi Fani-Kayode and Abdulrahman Dambazau for ambassadorial appointments.

Fani-Kayode, who served as Minister of Aviation, and Dambazau, a former Minister of Interior, had previously undergone full Senate screening during their ministerial confirmations in past administrations.

Following brief introductions, the former ministers, alongside other ambassadors and lawmakers, were asked to “take a bow and leave,” in line with Senate tradition, citing their prior clearance and extensive public service records.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele defended the procedure, explaining that the “take a bow and go” approach is reserved for nominees with established and verifiable public service histories.

Bamidele further noted that anyone who has previously served in the National Assembly automatically qualifies for the privilege, adding that their legislative records and public profiles are already well known to lawmakers. Their confirmation now awaits ratification by the full Senate.

The screening follows President Bola Tinubu’s submission of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for confirmation on November 29.
