The Sokoto State Government has confirmed that a joint airstrike conducted by the Nigerian military in collaboration with the United States targeted terrorist camps in Tangaza Local Government Area, with no civilian casualties reported.
The confirmation came in a statement on Friday from the Director-General of Media and Publicity, Government House, Sokoto, Abubakar Bawa, made available to journalists in the state capital.
According to the statement, the operation, carried out on Wednesday, forms part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating within Sokoto State and along Nigeria’s northwestern borders.
“The impact of the airstrike could not be immediately determined as assessment reports from the Joint Operations are still being awaited,” the statement said.
The government also addressed public concern over the discovery of suspicious objects near Jabo town in Tambuwal Local Government Area, noting that investigations were ongoing.

“The circumstances surrounding the objects found near Jabo town remain unclear, as analysis by Nigeria–US military authorities is still in progress,” Bawa stated.
He reassured residents that no civilians were harmed in Tangaza or Jabo communities.
Reaffirming its support for international security cooperation, Sokoto State described the collaboration with the United States as a vital measure against terrorism and cross-border criminal activities.
“Sokoto State welcomes collaboration between Nigeria and all relevant global stakeholders to curb terrorism and cross-border crimes,” the statement read.
It added that security operations remain focused on protecting lives and property across the state.
The government highlighted its continued support for security agencies, noting that over the past two years it has provided operational assistance and equipment to strengthen state security.
“The Sokoto State Government has consistently assisted security agencies in combating banditry and terrorism by supplying the necessary equipment to enhance safety across the state,” the statement said.
Residents were urged to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide credible intelligence to aid ongoing operations.
The government also called on citizens to pray for the success of security forces in restoring lasting peace.
“The government calls on residents to continue to pray to Almighty Allah to support our security agencies in defeating criminals in the state and across the country,” it concluded.
The joint airstrike is part of intensified military operations across Nigeria’s North-West, where security forces continue to target armed groups involved in terrorism, banditry, and trans-border crimes.
