Super Eagles and Chaves of Portugal midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali is enmeshed in another bout of controversy. This time with his Portuguese club he joined from Ponferradina of Spain not long after the episode at Huesca also in Spain. ,
Recall that Nwakali had his contract terminated at Huesca after he overstayed in Nigeria and failed to show up early at the club after the Africa cup of nations tournament in Cameroun in 2021, where the Eagles got eliminated at the round of 16 by Tunisia, following that infamous goalkeeping blunder by Maduka Okoye.
The Chile 2015 FIFA U17 Most Valuable Player (MVP) had his career suffer a dip as a result before he got another opportunity with Ponferradina, a Spanish division 2 side from where he moved to Chaves.
But Nwakali is in hot water again with Chaves as top management officials of the club are aggrieved with the player and have therefore set up an inquiry to investigate the rational behind the player’s action of using his phone while on the bench.
Authentic reports have it that Nwakali was caught on video using his phone on the bench after the player was subbed at half time in their 0-1 loss to Famalicao which confirmed their relegation.
The former Arsenal signing risk having his contract terminated again despite have a year left in his contract.
The talent of Nwakali has never been in doubt right from the U17 but hobnobbing from one controversy to another has really not helped his course as his once promising career has been topsy turvy.
You can imagine a player that won the MVP in a team and tournament that had the likes of Samuel Chukwueze and Victor Osimhen who scored 11 goals in that competition to shatter the all time highest goals scorer’s record in that tournament.
But look at Osimhen and Chukwueze today to compare to Nwakali. Osimhen has already won the best African Player Award and Chukwueze has moved from Villarreal in the Spanish La Liga to AC Milan in the Italian Serie A, while Nwakali is yet to get off with his career.
What is it with Nwakali and controversy? Can’t he simply put his head down and focus more on his career rather than being entangled in one controversy after another.
The managers of this young man should please sit him down for a heart to heart discussion. He is too talented to waste away like this without achieving his full potential.
Nwakali, say no to all the negative vibes and energies and welcome to the world of fresh opportunities and possibilities.
