Kenyans, Ethiopians Show Class In Access Bank Lagos City Marathon

Kenyan born, Edwin Elkanah Kibet and Ethiopian Alemenesh Herpha emerged winners of the 2023 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.

Kibet who is a soldier in the US Army raced through to the finish line in a personal record of 2:14:13 as he was closely followed Ethiopian Dekeba Tafa who finished with 2:14:54 and Kenyan Bernard Sang who came third with 2:17:14.

Guta Alemenesh Herpha won the women’s category with a time of 2:40:42 and closely followed by another Ethiopian Urisa Kebene Chala with a time of 2:40:44 and Kenyan Naomi Maiyo came third with 2:40:56.

For emerging winner of the marathon race, winners went home with 50,000 dollars, second took 40,000 dollars, while finishing in the third place smiled home with 30,000 dollars.

Meanwhile, Abdulhakeem Yunus, Felicia Adebutu became the first Nigerians to finish the race as they went home with three million naira each.

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon have become an annual race in Lagos State, Nigeria, and world class long distance runners gather to fight for one the most lucrative prize money in Marathon.
