Karim Benzema’s brace against Elche CF in midweek took him past Blancos legend Raúl González (228), also saw him break into the top five goal scorers in LaLiga Santander history.
The in-form 2022 Ballon d’Or winner continues making history in LaLiga Santander. Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema’s midweek brace against Elche CF saw him move on to 230 goals for Real Madrid in LaLiga Santander, moving into second in the club’s all-time goal rankings as well as into the top five in the history of the competition.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo has scored more goals for the club in league competition (311) than Benzema. Both joined the club in the summer of 2009, and shared a dressing room with Raúl González – the man who completes the podium of top scorers in club history with 228– for a single season before the Spaniard put an end to his storied spell at the Santiago Bernabéu.
In overtaking Raúl, Benzema is now also the fifth top scorer in the competition’s history. Only Lionel Messi (474), Cristiano Ronaldo (311), Telmo Zarra (252) and Hugo Sánchez (234) stand ahead of the Frenchman, who is just 23 goals off the top three.
Who’d bet against him breaking into that top three?
