Nigeria to host 2nd Africa Military Games next year

Nigeria to host over forty Africa countries in 2nd Africa Military Games 2024.

The President, Organization of Military Sports in Africa, OSMA, Major General Abdullahi Maikano who disclosed this while briefing Journalists said that among the countries coming, only 27countries indicated interest.

The theme of the Africa Military Games 2024 is “Enhancing Military African Cooperation through Sport”.

General Maikano said “before the games, there will be a General Assembly in Nigeria in February, 2024”.

According to him, 54 African countries were sent invitations to let them know that there will be a General Assembly in Nigeria.

He said that “this will afford them the opportunity to see the facilities available in the country”.

The Director of Sport, DHQ, Air Vice Marshal Abidemi Marauos says the aim of African Military Games 2024 afford the African countries the opportunity to interact with one another toward enhancing the good collaborating relationship built and enjoyed over the years.

The Director noted that among the 42 countries coming will compete in 19 sporting events with 2,000 military Athletes across the African countries.

According to him, there are 3 parts of the games, African Military Games, the Chief of Defence Armed Forces Half Marathon and Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security Half Marathon.

He added a Synopsis on General Assembly scheduled for February,  2024 to be hosted in Nigeria by the Organisation of Military Sport in Africa.

Vice Marshal Marauos said that  “African Military games are the multi-sport events for military athletes in Africa”.

He noted that the first edition was held in Nairobi Kenya 17th to 27th April in 2002 in which a total number of 32 countries competed in 11 sporting events with 1,562 Athletes.

The Africa Military Games 2024 has the Ground Patron as President Ahmed Tinubu, Patron Minister of Defence Mohammad Abubakar, Chief Host, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, Co-host, Services Chiefs, and Captain of Industries etc.

A car manufacturing Industry donated a car for the winner of the games.
