Nigerian-Americans Echikunwoke, Orji Included in USA’s 120-Athlete Paris Olympics Squad

The United States has confirmed the selection of Nigerian-American athletes Annette Echikunwoke and Keturah Orji among their contingent of 120 athletes for the athletics competition at the Paris Olympic Games.

Echikunwoke, set to make her Olympic debut, switched allegiance to the United States in 2022 after being disqualified from representing Nigeria at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics due to administrative issues. She holds the African area record in hammer throw, having set multiple Nigerian and African records, including a mark of 75.49m at the USATF Throws Festival in May 2021.

Meanwhile, Orji, in her third Olympic appearance, aims to convert previous fourth and seventh place finishes into a podium spot. She has exclusively represented the USA throughout her career.

Both athletes will compete under the American flag in Paris, with Echikunwoke bringing her prowess in hammer throw to the fore, previously unreachable in her native Nigeria.
